CAR is Southern Africa’s leading multi-media automotive consumer brand. Established in 1957, CAR magazine continues to be the dominant, opinion-forming, monthly automotive-interest magazine in South Africa. Its website, CARmag.co.za, was established more than a decade ago to offer web-based motoring enthusiasts a frequently updated source of news and information about the car market. More recently, CAR has acquired a mobile presence in the shape of a mobi site and now offers downloadable content through a variety of mobile delivery partners. What’s more, CAR-branded audiovisual content, produced in-house by the CARtv division, has dovetailed with a variety of the brand’s innovative marketing activities to bring CAR to burgeoning television, online and mobile audiences.

CAR reaches a large and diverse audience of automotive enthusiasts. The magazine has a circulation of 69 897 and a readership of 996 000. The CAR website reaches an audience of 88 693 unique visitors with 361 199 page impressions. We have 13 967 webletter subscribers and 9 378 subscribers to our promotional mailers. The percentage page views from a mobile device is 31%. Our Facebook profile has 39 546 fans and MXit 101 378. The division also produces a variety of tailor-made products of CAR-related or -affiliated events, such as performance shootouts and motor shows. CAR hosts the Top 12 Best Buys awards ceremony in conjunction with its Awards Issue every year. Top 12 recognises the manufacturers and/or importers of the best vehicles in respective segments of the market, as well as particular achievements in the automotive industry. CAR further hosts the CAR Conference, a summit attended by the SA motor industry’s major stakeholders, at every Johannesburg International Motor Show.  

On a more playful note, every year CAR  hosts the Virtual Le Mans Challenge in which teams of readers compete, with the aid of racing consoles, for the duration of the legendary sports car endurance event.
