Content Synopsis

WIEL is in the enviable position of being the only Afrikaans motoring media brand in the country, having evolved from a magazine launched more than 30 years ago to become a dynamic source of motoring content across multiple platforms. In addition to the magazine, readers can access news, road tests and more on the website, www.wiel.co.za, and chat with WIEL friends on Facebook. MXit will shortly be added to our social media offering and a mobi site is under construction. The various platforms do not duplicate content, but rather complement one another.

WIEL was established in 1978 as mouthpiece for the motorsport fraternity (at that time, motorsport received very little media coverage), but quickly developed into a respected source on all issues ranging from new model news, road tests, general motoring interests and, of course, motorsport. Over the years, few changes were made to this recipe, though WIEL today covers everything from technical matters to bikes and the outdoors. Various supplements are designed with specific topics in mind and are published at regular intervals during the year.

More than motoring, WIEL is about wheels, hence the content appeals to car lovers of all types – those who use it as reference and consumer guide for the latest pricing and model offerings in the market, those who want to stay abreast of the latest developments in the field and those who simply love cars. Strong emphasis is placed on great photography; the general presentation of articles is designed to make it not only a user-friendly guide, but one with visual appeal.

WIEL remains the only mainstream Afrikaans motoring offering and serves not only South Africa, but also neighbouring countries where Afrikaans is used widely, such as Namibia.

Unique content remains a big drawcard: downloadable images, wallpapers and desktops of exotics and desirable vehicles, videos and links to manufacturers. At the same time, the website offers a place for like-minded car enthusiasts to interact with one another.
