Second Getaway International a visual delight
comments: 2
The second edition of Getaway International hits the streets on 28 May, a visual feast and invaluable guide for travellers with on an eye on exploring London during the Olympics as well as other overseas destinations.

The magazine was launched as an annual in September 2011 with a view to providing South Africans with a credible and informative resource written from a local perspective. The response from readers and advertisers was "overwhelmingly positive", according to publisher Jacqueline Lahoud, prompting the decision to publish two editions a year.

The Winter issue kicks off with an Olympic tie-in, with a feature on the lesser-known attractions of London and insider tips on what to see and do in the East End. A focus on Asia explores Nepal’s top attractions, Thai street food and the bustle of Hong Kong. African destinations take in Morocco and the Serengeti, while other articles look at touring in Australia, the exotic highlights of Turkey, Tintin’s Brussels and voluntourism in Mauritius.

In keeping with the design objective for the title, the issue is pictorially driven and printed on high-quality paper to appeal to a sophisticated, upmarket and travel-savvy audience.

"We found the first issue worked well by featuring something from every continent, so we'll be pursuing this formula for the most part and then tailor each issue to 'what's hot' in the relevant season," explained Lahoud.

The print run for the Getaway International’s Winter issue is 21 000, with 15 000 copies available on the newsstand atR39,95 each, and 6 000 copies to be distributed to magazine subscribers.

Locating a copy
Hi LaraSorry to hear you've had a problem - what area are in you in? As Getaway International has only just gone bi-annual, we haven't set up a subscription option yet. But we'll certainly look into it.

Getaway International
I would like to know if it's possible to subscribe to Getaway International. I have found it really difficult to buy this from book stores. Not every outlet has this magazine.
