As our Custom Publishing division continues to grow, we are pleased to present an exciting full time employment opportunity within the division. We are looking for an exceptional and experienced candidate to join the team as Senior Designer. Reporting to the Editor, you’ll have responsibility for conceptualising, designing and readying finished artwork across the custom publishing publications on print, email and web platforms.


Duties and responsibilities:

1. Design

Print design:

• Creating concepts / storyboards / templates for pitch processes


• Handling pitch presentation preparation (PowerPoint creative)


• CI / logo design


• Design of editorial pages, features, advertorials, house ads, covers and classifieds as per content plan


• Picture selection and photo editing


• Creating print ready pdf’s


• Checking high-res proofs


• Checking imposition sheets from printer


• Design of ancillary material – including subscription cards, subscription adverts, posters, banners and coupons


• Design and layout of supplements

Web design:

• Creating web page templates


• Creating web letter templates


• Creating banner adverts


• Creating digital magazine concepts and pages

2. Production

• Downloading digital advertising material and checking key numbers


• Assisting with the digital upload to the printers


• Approving both online and hard copy proofs from the printers


• Liaising with advertising sales teams, printers, marketing and editorial teams


• Assisting with the production of all supplements

Specific skills required:

• Minimum 5 years related work experience in custom/concept design, coupled with a relevant design qualification


• The ability to interpret client briefs and develop designs to enhance these


• Excellent concept design ability for print, web and email


• Proficient in the use of Adobe CS3 / CS4: InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator


• A thorough knowledge of modern repro and print processes, and an understanding for print design, layout and finished art


• Solid web experience advantageous


• Proficiency in Photoshop


• Extreme accuracy, good organisational skills and a keen eye for detail


• Good inter-personal skills with the ability to work with a small, dedicated team


• The ability to work fast and methodically in a pressurised, deadline-driven environment


• Familiarity with internet-based data resources
